HITCHCOCK SPIERS is an interior design studio, founded by Laura Hitchcock and Holley Spiers, based in Ilkley, West Yorkshire.


Laura has a background in fine art and has worked for some of the world’s most celebrated, luxury design brands. She has been applying her experience across both residential and commercial projects for the past 15 years.


Holley began her career in advertising, working for global, blue-chip brands. For the past four years, Holley has applied her wealth of experience to interior design.

This client wanted a clutter-free kitchen, with plenty of storage and somewhere to sit for a coffee and a catch-up with friends. We created this seating at the end of the island, situated alongside the drinks station. A few close-ups on the details of this project. The considered use of texture and colour creates the balance within this scheme. A geometric sheer acts as a decorative trim to the curtain, whilst reducing glare on a sunny day. Sculptural wall lights add interest, allowing the art on the adjacent wall to sing. This project took us to the village of Bishop Monkton, where I spent my childhood daring to jump the beck, climbing trees and playing blocky 123. It was great to have an excuse to be back. Continuing with the theme of functional design, wooden surfaces require a little love to keep them looking their best, especially around the taps where water gathers. LAURA. She's an incredibly rare combination of a creative talent, mixed with unrivalled attention to detail. If you're naturally creative, it's easy to wow someone with a vision for their home. Whether that vision will actually work in principle is another matter. This cloakroom required numerous drawings to ensure that the panels would fit perfectly symmetrically around the sanitaryware, whilst still allowing the hidden doors to open via push release. As well as something original and beautiful, the bones of this design are rooted in the clients' values of simplicity, durability and practicality. This moodboard gives a little insight into their new open-plan kitchen, living and study, (aka 'Biscuit Corner' as we've added an oriel window. The perfect spot to enjoy a cup of tea and a hobnob)! A new glass extension will form the bridge to the surrounding countryside, picked up in the tones and textures. The cabinetry shades are muted and earthy, yet when combined they inject playfulness into a paired back and sophisticated palette, echoed throughout the rest of the property. We've been planning this home for over a year now and the build starts in just over a week. In our last design meeting we experienced brilliant profanities, whispered through smiles. Such genuine responses mean the world 😊

Maddie was after a jungle bedroom and wanted her name in lights. Well, who wouldn't? Thank you, Maddie. You were such fun to work with. We loved your ideas and your creativity. Especially your hand-drawn sketches of monkeys climbing vines 🐒🌱
Does anyone else struggle to keep up with school emails? This morning I very nearly sent my daughter to school in uniform on a non-uniform day. Has anyone ever done that? 🙈  I don't think I would ever hear the end of it. Maybe if I cleared my desk of the fabric samples, paint charts and Roman soldier pencil sharpener 🤷‍♀️ and it looked a little more like this, I would never again miss a school email 🤔  A little bit about the scheme... All cabinetry in the room is bespoke and was designed by us, including the desk, which sits in the centre of the room. For the super-observant amongst you, you'll notice that the bottom of this storage bench tilts slightly. This simple trick helps to stop swinging little legs from knocking the wooden front when getting shoes on and off. Simple, yet effective. Just how we like it. Shout-out to the lovely Torie of @handmade_by_torie who made this rather lovely bench seat cushion for us (swipe for a closer look).
The brief for this ensuite was for it to be calming, neutral and have a grown-up feel. The bespoke vanity hides away all the usual bathroom clutter, (including charging for the toothbrushes). Swipe to see the freestanding bath against the limewashed walls. Limewash is perfect for bathrooms. It’s breathable, nontoxic, and eco-friendly. The high pH level means that it’s naturally bacteria and mold resistant.
Moving from a period property into a modern home doesn't mean parting ways with your collected treasures. Our client inherited this wonderful walnut chest from his Grandfather. It tucks in beautifully at the bottom of the stairs. The texture and the detail in the wood stand out against the smooth, unblemished wall behind 👌
"HS began with a critique of our architect’s plans. They challenged us on how we use our home now and how our needs might change as the children grow older. We are so glad that they did. Without their input, we would no doubt have made decisions that we would later come to regret". This bedroom was on the original architect's plans as a cinema room. We're so glad that they allowed us to play with those first layouts. Imagine waking up to that view each morning 🙌

We love the different shades of green reflected in the tiles of this family bathroom. The touches of brass create the perfect contrast. We stole just enough space from the landing to allow for a decent sized bath bath, nestled perfectly into the space created. We did find ourselves measuring, remeasuring and measuring again on this one 😅

Another pic of this beautiful, bespoke kitchen. We sourced reclaimed stone to conceal a vertical steel on the right. We balanced it by adding more stone behind the the fire (just out of shot) on the left. Floor-to-ceiling pantry units nestled in the alcove maximise storage space (swipe for a closer look). FLOW. Peeking into a utility/ boot room that we recently completed for a client over in Huby. Swipe to see the view back into their kitchen/ diner. When we took on this project, we were lucky enough to be involved in the design of the whole house, from the outset. This meant the flow within each room, as well as from one room to the next, could be tailored perfectly to this family's way of living and style preferences. Providing somewhere for the kids to put away bags as they come home from school, (the bench seat lifts to reveal loads of hidden storage), to clear sight-lines and a cohesive colour scheme. DETAIL The use of lines on this bespoke cabinet adds a playful twist, highlighting the treasures displayed. We added a picture rail with hidden LED up-lights to help draw the eye down, giving a feeling of intimacy. The soft warmth of the LED light allows for the perfect evening glow, without reflecting off the 65" TV. Today, we were working on the layout for a kitchen with an adjoining sunken living room and dining room. In the early stages of planning a space, we are mindful of our client's style preferences and the details that we know they will love. For this client, it is these beautiful 300mm marble pencil tiles. By calculating, at the outset, whether they will be long enough to form the edge of the fireplace in the sunken living room, we can be sure that the finished design will feel considered. Our cinema room project is nearing completion and we're delighted with it. Featuring a bespoke sofa and footstool, which can be repositioned to create a huge bed. Acoustic underlay and wrap around textured walls and ceilings help to prevent sound from travelling. Custom walnut panelling featuring ebonised shadow gaps and a subdued LED ledge highlights the soft tactility of the walls.
